Fire, Smoke restoration specialists serving Beaver, Lawrence, Allegheny and Butler County. We understand that you deal with a great amount of stress after the unfortunate events of a fire. We have many years of experience with helping families pick up the pieces and repair their homes and businesses after such devastation. There are many important steps to complete after you have had a fire. You can find a lot of information on our "Helpful Tips & Phone Numbers" tab.
Oftentimes with fires, you not only have structural damage from the fire, heat and smoke, but you also have water damage from the firemen's attempts to save the dwelling. Fire Restoration should only be handled by trained professionals. A great deal of harmful toxins and chemicals are released into the air after a fire. It is important for anyone entering the building after a fire to wear appropriate respiratory protective equipment.
EMERGENCY RESPONSE: It is important, after given the go-ahead from the Fire Department and you, the homeowner, for us to come in and board-up any windows, doors and openings that were damaged during the fire. Oftentimes, if the firemen had to cut a hole into the roof to allow heat to escape the building, we will have to temporarily tarp it off to prevent any further damage from outside exposure. We will also secure the area with signs and caution tape warning others to stay off the property. As a courtesy, we will contact the local Police Department and request that they patrol the area.
Upon inspection from the Fire Marshall and other Investigative teams, we will meet with you and your Insurance Adjuster's to inspect the dwelling and discuss the scope of repairs. After a major fire it is most important to inspect the structure's stability. Areas that are unsafe must be addressed only by experienced professionals and repaired as soon as possible. Once the structure has been stabilized, the drying process should begin. Once drying has been completed, the construction phase can begin.
ODOR REMOVAL: With a fire comes a great deal of smoke odor. There are many techniques that we use to remove the odors from both the dwelling itself and the items within it. Depending on the severity of the fire, the first thing to be completed is to remove all burnt materials from the dwelling including clothing, carpet, drapery and any heavily damaged building materials and textiles. Once the burnt items are discarded, all contents will be packed up and inventory taken. Clothing will then be sent to our IICRC Certified Dry Cleaner who is professionally trained in treating smoke contaminated textiles and water damaged materials. The remaining contents including furniture & housewares will be packed up and stored in one of our climate-controlled storage facilities. The items will then be placed in an OZONE CHAMBER: An ozone chamber is a confined space where high levels of ozone are used for deodorization purposes. It is the second strongest oxidizing agent known to man. Ozone doesn't merely mask odors and harmful substances, it seeks out and eliminates them at their molecular source. Oftentimes, after major fires, we will bring our Ozone machine on site and create an Ozone chamber within the damaged dwelling. Because of Ozone's toxicity to humans, no one is permitted in the dwelling while the machine is in use. We will typically run the machine for 24-48 hours depending on the severity of the fire.
CONTENTS: After the contents have been exposed to the Ozone chamber, they will undergo a series of cleanings with Industry-specific cleaners, chemicals and deodorizers that are designed to remove odors caused by fires. As we do with water damaged documents, we can also send smoke damaged documents and photos to our elite document restorers and they can assist us with saving valuable information.
The remaining steps in odor removal within the home or business consist of multiple steps. We use alcohol-based, Industry-specific sealers to seal odors into building materials such as stud walls, framing joists, and underlayment. We can place odor eliminating crystals within the home to help absorb the foul smoke odors and apply odor counteracting liquid sprays.
THERMAL FOGGING: Thermal fogging is a procedure by which a device omits a scented deodorizer into the air by creating a dry fog that follows the path of smoke & neutralizes the odor.
Even if you have minor smoke damage or odor damage unrelated to fire or smoke, the above techniques can be used to aid you in the recovery process. Odors are specific to each case and oftentimes it takes a series of events to get rid of them altogether.
RECONSTRUCTION: Once we are able to dry the structure and begin the series of odor eliminating events, it is time to repair the dwelling. We will provide your insurance company with a detailed computer estimate of the scope of work to be completed. With regards to most homeowner's policies, you are entitled to "like, kind and quality," which means, it is our job to put your home back to where it was before the fire occurred. For example, if you had carpet in your living room, you are entitled to put carpet back, etc. At that time, if you would like to make any upgrades to the quality of building materials, it is your responsibility to provide compensation for those additional items. Before making any repairs, we will verify that you have proper coverage from your insurance policy and that we have permission to begin the construction phase.
Once again, we understand the stress and aggravation that fires bring. We work as quickly as possible to restore your home so that you can return to your daily routine!
